FRAUDULENT EMAIL SCAMS

In order to protect our customers from identity theft we want to alert you to an e-mail scam called "phishing" that is being used to fradulently obtain personal and confidential information.  This is how it works:

  • A consumer recieves an e-mail which appears to originate from a well-known entity, such as Mid America Bank & Trust Company
  • The message describes an urgent reason you must "verify" or "re-submit" personal or confidential information by clicking on a link embedded in the message.
  • The provided link appears to be familiar and legitimate, but the website actually belongs to the "phisher" or scammer.
  • Once inside the fraudulent website, the consumer may be asked to provide Social Security Numbers, account numbers, passwords, etc.

Mid America Bank & Trust Company will NEVER send an email requesting confidential information, such as Social Security Numbers, passwords, account numbers, or any other information that has already been provided to the bank.

Mid America Bank & Trust Company emails DO NOT contain any links.  To access our website, you should always type the web address in your address bar (http://www.midamericabanking.com) or use a "bookmark."

Helpful dos and don'ts to follow if you receive an e-mail that asks you to disclose confidential information:

  • DO close your browser immediately and open a new session.
  • DON'T click on any links in a "phishing" email.
  • DON'T provide any confidential information at "phishing" sites.
  • DON'T reply to "phishing" e-mails.
  • DO forward a copy of e-mails you believe to be fraudulent to our Customer Service Department at mabtc@midamericabanking.com.
